You will be asked to present your membership card or a proof of membership at the door of the event. Once membership is confirmed, you will be given a voting card. Below is a highlight of our bylaws:
4.1 Classification of Members
Any resident within the stated boundaries will be a full member upon payment of the membership fee. There are five categories of Members:
4.1.1 Family Membersreside in one household and act as a family unit and may exercise up to two adult member votes per household.
4.1.2 Senior Membersare those over 65 years of age.
4.1.3 Adult Members are any adult over the age of 18 years in one household with no children.
4.1.4 Honorary Life Member may be conferred upon anyone who has provided long service to the League or has made significant, positive contributions to the Community League. The decision for presenting candidates for life memberships to the membership will be at the discretion of the Board.
4.1.5 Associate Member is a non-voting member (any business or institution located within the defined boundaries of the League or non-resident person who wishes to support the Community Leagueand who has first purchased a membership in his or her home community league).
4.1.6 Volunteer Membershipis a non-voting member who wishes to volunteer at a casino. No fee is required for membership and volunteer must be 18 years or older.
5.2 Composition of the Board
The Board consists of:
Neighbourhood Development Director;
Four (4) Directors at Large:to fill positions and committees in the organization. Positions are based on the activities of the board, such as but not limited to, volunteer coordination, sports, garden club, seniors groups.
5.3 Eligibility for Board
An individual is eligible for election or appointment to the Board if he or she is a Voting Member or the designated representative of the society and is at least eighteen (18) years of age;
(a) is not an employee of the society; and
(b) is otherwise legally competent to conduct business and enter contracts under the laws of Canada and its provinces.
5.4 Election of the Board
5.4.1All terms will be for one year. A person appointed or elected becomes an Officer if they were present at the Annual General Meeting when being appointed or elected, and did not refuse the appointment or nomination. They may also become an Officer if they were not present at the meeting but consented in writing to act as an Officer before the appointment or election.
5.4.2Each person nominated must be elected by a majority of those entitled to exercise the power of voting and in attendance in person or by written proxy at a properly constituted meeting of the Society.
