The Grower's Dozen Community Garden is getting three years old in 2018! Located beside the Parkdale Cromdale Community League Hall (11335 85 Street), we have built a total of 24 raised garden beds dedicated to communal uses and individual rentals. In the upcoming gardening season, we would like to offer the following programs and activities, in order to create a socially connected community where residents are able to get to know each other, become educated on gardening and have the skills and knowledge to beautify the community:
- Garden Bed Rental
We are also currently accepting individual applications for raised garden bed rentals for the 2018 season. Rate is $20 (including $10 deposit) per plot from May to September. Conditions may apply. For sign-up and detailed information, please click here
- Season Kick-off Clean-up Party
The party is planned on May 5 from 10 am to 3 pm with activities including relocating the portable beds back to the hockey rink, cleanups, building composters and most importantly, a lunch potluck. If you are interested in joining the party, please rsvp here.
- Gardening 101
Guest lectures for gardening basics are planned in late April. Detailed information will be available once confirmed.
- Front Garden Redevelopment
The front garden around the community league hall was redesigned in 2017 with construction scheduled in summer 2018. We are looking for volunteers to utilize local knowledge and labour forces in redeveloping the front garden.
- Harvest Dinner
Harvests from communal gardens will used for a community dinner, scheduled on September 15, 2018 at the community league hall. We are calling for volunteers to grow and look after the vegetables throughout spring and summer and to prepare for the harvest dinner in the fall.
