What’s a better place to stop by after you get your morning coffee and fresh bake goods at the Downtown Farmer’s Market other than the City Hall. Join the crowd at City hall together to celebrate Canada Day with barbecue, photo booth, and live music all day! They are also unveiling a new Canada 150 Mosaic Mural! Alberta Legislature Grounds

Have you seen the inside of the historical Legislature Building? Ever wonder where you MLA sits, works, and possibly argue? The Alberta Legislature Building is offering free open house tour for the public from 12:30pm to 4:30pm. Come on down to one of the most picturesque sites in our province and celebrate with crafts, fun activities and educational and musical performances for parents and children.  Don’t forget to snap some pictures in your best red and white outfits.

If you go earlier enough (7:00am to 10:00 am), go get pancake breakfast hosted by Aga Khan Council for Edmonton on Legislature south grounds.

Shakespeare in the Park

Take in an afternoon or an evening play with the Freewill Shakespeare Performers down at Hawrelak Park. The Merry Wives of Windsor will be performed at 2pm and The Merchant of Venice at 8pm. Both performances include a pre-puppet show for the kids that teaches them the main characters and plot points to get them ready for the show ahead. You can find more info here.

Canada Day Fireworks Finale

You DON’T want to miss the spectacular fireworks show choreographed with High Level Bridge light show in the River Valley on Canada Day.  We encourage you to take the bus or LRT, as parking is gonna be insane! Here’s our suggestion on some of the best viewing locations:

  • Alberta Legislature Grounds (Capital Plaza - north plaza)
  • Victoria Park (River Valley Road)
  • Government House Park (Groat Road and River Valley Road)
  • Ezio Faraone Park
  • RE/MAX Field (Formerly known as Telus Field)- Those attending the Edmonton Prospects vs the Weyburn Beavers game on July 1 are welcome to remain in their seats at the RE/MAX Field to watch the fireworks
  • River Valley Road (closed to vehicles)
  • Walterdale Hill Road and Queen Elizabeth Park Road (closed to vehicles)
  • 109 Street (between Saskatchewan Drive and the High Level Bridge) (closed to vehicles)
